Transport & Accessibility

Full details of transport options and accessibility for the week of Liberation Day can be found below.

Transport

St Peter Port will host a full schedule of events on Liberation Day which requires a considerable amount of infrastructure to be built in the preceeding days.

Some roads and parking areas will be impacted throughout the week to accommodate this and a number of road closures and parking suspensions will be in place. Please familarise yourself with the pending road closures and parking suspensions.

To help keep things moving smoothly, we encourage Islanders to use active travel options like walking, cycling or taking the bus wherever possible.  If you are driving, please allow extra time and check for any temporary restrictions before setting off.

Please note the Cavalcade will be travelling from the Vaugrat campsite into St Peter Port from 2pm and the floats from Longue Hougue at 1pm. The Cavalcade will work on a rolling closure and we would strongly advise people to avoid driving the route of this during these times as you may be subject to delays and/or diversions. The full Cavalcade route can be found here

Drivers can access South Esplanade blue badge parking from the Val des Terres, and the North Beach spaces from St Julian’s Avenue or along the seafront from the north

Traffic from the Longstore southbound will also be diverted from 6pm for the departure of the Cavalcade

Both the morning parade and afternoon cavalcade will make use of the whole seafront with the route going all the way down to the Castle Pier roundabout. This is to ensure there are as many viewing positions as possible.

Seating for 500 people will be provided at the bus terminus for those who require it, including those with limited mobility, carers and sunflower lanyard holders. There will also be a reserved area for wheelchair users.

Limited seating will also be available outside the Town Church, by the Victor Hugo seat.

Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and there will be volunteer marshals monitoring these areas to ensure seating and spaces are being used by those who need it most. Users are asked to be mindful and give up their seats if there is someone less able to stand.

Parade timings

The parade will be inspected on the seafront from 11am.  The parade will march along the seafront at approximately 11.40am, turn at the slaughterhouse roundabout and return to the Town Church for the Liberation Service at 12pm.

Cavalcade timings

The pedestrian Cavalcade will start from Salerie Corner at 2.30pm and walk along the seafront to the slaughterhouse roundabout before returning along the seafront.

The vehicles will arrive at Salerie Corner at 3pm. On arrival at the Albert Pier the military vehicles will drive onto Albert Pier to form a static display.  The vintage cars and tractors will park up on the road in front of the bus terminus.

An area at the bus terminus will be reserved for wheelchair users, carers and sunflower lanyard holders to watch the parade and Cavalcade.

There will also be limited accessible seating and space for wheelchair users outside the Town Church by the Victor Hugo seat.

For those needing a sit-down throughout the day, seating will be available:

The Vintage Fair will remain on Crown Pier for the weekend, with a ‘Quiet Hour’ between 10.00 – 11.00am on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th May.

With lower music and lighting levels, the hour each day is specifically for people who would benefit from a more relaxed environment. This might include people with autism, learning disabilities, or sensory sensitivities, who might find the typical fairground setting to be overwhelming and stressful. Visitors are encouraged to wear a sunflower lanyard if they are attending during this dedicated time.
