Vintage Fun Fair Returns for Liberation Day 2026

Liberation Day organisers have confirmed the Downs’ Steam Vintage Fair as part of the weekend’s programme once again this year.  

Following its popular debut last year for the 80th anniversary, the sights and sounds of the traditional vintage fair will return to Albert Pier from 11am until late on the 9 May, made possible thanks to support from Brittany Ferries. 

Those who attend the seafront celebrations will have the chance to enjoy a Ferris Wheel as part of the Downs’ Steam Vintage Fair, as the new attraction arrives in the island for the first time. 

Paul Acheson, Sales and Marketing Director at Brittany Ferries, said:  

“We are pleased to support the Liberation Day Organisation Committee with the transport of the vintage fair from the UK for the 9 May celebrations. Liberation Day is a significant date in the island’s calendar, so we are honoured to also provide travel for the Chelsea Pensioners and the Gurkha Rifles who attend the commemorations.” 

The family-run fair was established in 1935, but their involvement with fairgrounds dates back to 1850.  

Islanders will be able to enjoy traditional favourites, including a chair-o-plane and Austin cars, alongside The Pride of the South carousel, which appears in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Each ride will cost £3.50.   

Similar to the 2025 programme, the fun fair will run a quiet hour on Sunday 10 May between 10-11am for families with children with autism, neurodiversity and other sensory needs who will benefit from the more relaxed environment. The fair will then remain open on Albert Pier until 5pm.
