Back by popular demand, the Liberation Day Event in the Parish of St Pierre du Bois!

Posted:

St. Peter’s Parish will again be hosting a fantastic Community Liberation Day celebration event on Thursday 9th May 2024 on L’Eree Common and Beach.

FREE entertainment commences on its opening at 11am with Dennis Burns as Compere, with family activities on the Common for all ages and the ever popular 40’s Singalong in the Rocq Capital Entertainment Marquee where live music continues throughout the day, featuring a superb line up of some of the Island’s best known bands, with Underdog Headlining to close the celebrations at 9.45pm.

Fun and games will begin on the Beach at 2pm with a whole host of organised activities –  don’t forget your buckets, spades and decorations for the Sandcastle competition, bring your muscles for tug-of-war and your mates for the footie.  For the rest of the family, take advantage of the Kayak and SUP use,  visit the Vintage Was Memorabilia stall, Blue Ormer Channel Island Books and enjoy the Parish photography display, or just chat and catch up with old friends.

Voluntary Event Organiser Anne Thomas said “Our generous Sponsors and Volunteers have once again supported the Committee to bring together an incredible free day of Community celebration and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to this year’s event.”

The VraicEaters Tavern play host to you all day long behind the bar – please support them as the funds donated enable the family activities to be provided free of charge.   The obligatory bumper Meat Draw slots in at 5pm with tickets on sale all day.

In the meantime, there’s also food aplenty!   The ever popular Collenette Jones Traditional Tea Tent will be stocked with cakes, sandwiches and savouries and is supported by some of the best quality Food Vendors;  Chefan burgers,  ATAN South Asian cuisine, Fish & Chip Co, Mim’s Pizzas and new for this year Bean Jar from the Guernsey Tram!  Island Ices, Benberts Popcorn and Candyfloss will also be there.   We’ve got it all covered!

Spectator seating will be available for those who require it, to watch the well-loved Cavalcade which passes by around 12.20 and we encourage blue badge holders or those requiring nearby parking to arrive at the start of the event but no later than 12 noon if they wish to secure parking.  Please don’t forget your neighbours or those by themselves – bring everyone along to enjoy our special local day.

Public parking is available around the Lihou headland, but we also encourage active travel to the Event;  there are multiple passing bus routes and a grass based bicycle park.

Massive thanks and recognition is extended to our valued Sponsors, States of Guernsey,  Rocq Capital,  Collenette Jones,  The Vraiceaters Tavern,  Go-MoMo, Outdoor Guernsey, Venture Auto Locksmiths,  Venture Petrol and Pet Feed store, Styx Centre,   Longfrie Surgery, Scaffolding Services, Le Tricoteur and Champion-Smith Creative  for their generous community support.
